Virginia E. Hahn Memorial Scholarship

The Virginia E. Hahn Memorial Scholarship was established through the generosity of a lifelong history teacher to support students who share her passion for teaching history.

Award Amount: $5,000 or more per year (renewable)

Eligibility: First-year students intending to major in history and pursue a career teaching at the high school or university level.

This scholarship may be awarded in addition to other ²ÝݮӰÊÓ scholarships or grants, though some restrictions apply (see below).

Selection criteria

Students are selected based on the following:

  • Admission to ²ÝݮӰÊÓ as a first-year student
  • Completion of the online Hahn Scholarship application
  • ACT/SAT test scores (optional)
  • High school academic record, including GPA
  • A 300–400 word essay describing why you want to teach history and how ²ÝݮӰÊÓ will prepare you for this career

 

Scholarship renewal requirements

To maintain the Hahn Scholarship, recipients must:

  • Enroll in a history class during both semesters of their first year
  • Declare history as their major in a timely manner
  • Gain admission into the education program (if intending to teach at the high school level)
  • Make consistent progress toward completing history and education program requirements
  • Maintain full-time enrollment at ²ÝݮӰÊÓ
  • Live on campus

Failure to meet these requirements may result in a partial reduction or complete loss of the scholarship.

 

Application and deadline

Apply for the Hahn Scholarship

 

  • Application deadline: April 15
  • Notification date: May 1
  • Award disbursement: The scholarship amount will be included in the recipient’s financial aid package.

 

Restrictions

  • The total value of ²ÝݮӰÊÓ academic scholarships and grants cannot exceed the cost of tuition.
  • The Hahn Scholarship cannot be deferred. Students who delay enrollment must reapply and compete in a new applicant pool.
